Why I Created Homeschool Moms Connect

The idea behind this website started from a simple need, my own desire for connection and friendship.

Here’s the thing: none of my friends or family homeschool. That meant there were many times when I felt really isolated. No one to bounce ideas off of, no one who understood the ups and downs of choosing this path, and no one to vent to on the tough days.

Homeschooling is rewarding, but it can also feel heavy when you don’t have a support system. And I know I’m not alone. I’ve seen countless other moms express the same thing in various social media groups.

The Spark That Started It

In the beginning, I tried reaching out in a Minnesota homeschool group, hoping to find others to meet-up with and form connections. But unfortunately, those attempts fizzled out. Whether that was scheduling conflicts, or once the conversation moved past curriculum talk, there wasn’t much left to connect over.

Later, we got involved in a nature micro-school, which is wonderful. But because of my work schedule, it was hard to make it to field trips and events consistently. I also know that not everyone that homeschools has the ability to participate in the co-ops or micro-schools.

That’s when it really hit me, what if I created something different?

What if there was a space designed just for homeschool moms to find friends, share interests, and connect on a deeper level than just homeschooling?

That’s how Homeschool Moms Connect was born.

A Space for Moms

We put so much energy into making sure our kids have opportunities to socialize—through co-ops, sports, neighborhood friends, and other activities.

But what about us?

As moms, we need community, too. We need someone to check in on us, someone who understands the unique mix of joy, overwhelm, and responsibility that homeschooling brings.

It’s not just about swapping curriculum recommendations (though that can be helpful!). It’s also about finding that person you can laugh over shared experiences with, brainstorm solutions to challenges, and lift each other up when the days feel long.

This site was built to be a place where:

✅ You can search for your “homeschool bestie" by location, homeschool styles, interests and more!
✅ You can discover people nearby for playdates or form your own small group.
✅ You can share and receive support and encouragement.
✅ You can build lasting friendships that go beyond the homeschool years.
✅ You can come to the site and use a mindset tool to help you reset.

Side note: While this space is designed for moms, it can also open the door for your kids to find new friendships through the connections you make.

A Collaborative Effort

One thing that’s really important to me is that Homeschool Moms Connect isn’t just “my” project, it’s ours.

I want this to be a living, growing community that reflects the needs and ideas of the moms who use it.

If you have suggestions for features, resources, or ways to make the platform more helpful, I’d love to hear them. Maybe you’d like a space to share local homeschool events, a Q&A forum, or even a space to create smaller group forums on the site, bring your ideas! At times, there may be limitations to what I can incorporate in the platform, but don’t let that stop you from sharing.

The best communities grow when everyone has a voice. The more input we share, the stronger and more supportive it can become.

Why Just Moms?

I’ll admit, I went back and forth on this.

But ultimately, I realized I wanted to create a space where I could provide the most value, rooted in encouragement and mom-to-mom connection. Keeping the focus on moms allows the community to feel safe, intentional, and personal.

Who knows? If there’s enough interest, maybe there will be something similar for dads in the future. But for now, I want moms to feel seen, heard, and supported here.

Connection Changes Everything

Creating this site has been a journey. I’m still learning and shaping it as we grow, but one thing I know for sure: connection matters.

Homeschooling isn’t just about academics. It’s about building a life with our families, and that life feels richer when we have people to share it with.

I hope this site becomes the place where you find your “tribe,” your bestie, your circle of encouragement, or simply a sense of belonging you may not have realized you were missing.
